The Clinical Document Editor – a Powerful Tool for CDA Implementation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Documents constructed according to the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) need to be reviewed, edited and approved by an author, who is usually a clinician. The CDA specification does not require any particular editing tool to be used in creating CDAs. The tools used to edit CDAs have typically been specific to a particular profile of CDA, and even to the application using that profile. There are widely used style sheets to render and view CDA documents, but there are no comparable widely deployed tools for creating the CDA itself. Objectives: This paper describes an open source toolset to create productionquality, clinician-oriented, web-based editors and viewers for any profile of CDA. Methods: We illustrate the process of developing and deploying a clinical document editor using the example of the Consent Directive CDA. We introduce the Clinical Document Constructor Architecture. Results: The Clinical Document Editor toolset allows fully-functioning, clinician-ready editors to be rapidly developed and deployed for any CDA profile. Conclusions: The emphasis hitherto has been on the structure and computability of CDA documents, but the lack of tools to produce and edit the CDA format is now a significant constraint on its adoption. Tools to efficiently create and edit CDA documents are an essential step in making CDA applications acceptable to practicing clinicians, and thus in realizing the potential of CDA for healthcare interoperability.

A Self-Protecting Security Framework for CDA Documents
Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) is a standard for the exchange of electronic medical records. This paper describes a self-protecting security framework for protecting the security and privacy of CDA documents. The framework extends a CDA document with markups from XML based security standards including eXtensible Access Control Markup Language, XML Encryption, and XML Signature. This integ...

PROBLEM Although electronic communication of clinical data between various actors in the healthcare domain seems crucial for a cost-effective patient treatment, it is mostly restricted to paper based documents. In order to meet the growing need for improved data communication, it is necessary to overcome the barriers of software heterogeneity and lack of standards, especially in cross-instituti...

BACKGROUND Clinical trials apply standards approved by regulatory agencies for Electronic Data Capture (EDC). Operational Data Model (ODM) from Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) is commonly used. Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for patient care predominantly apply HL7 standards, specifically Clinical Document Architecture (CDA). In recent years more and more patient ...
متن کاملThe Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) Enables Electronic Medical Records to Wireless Mobile Computing
The Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) has proved to be a valuable and powerful standard for a structured exchange of clinical documents between heterogeneous software systems like a Hospital Information System and a Physician Office System. In this paper we want to show how the CDA can additionally be used in order to enhance the Hospital Information System's functionality: each patient rela...
